Popular Spa Programs | Cleansing/Detoxifying
In modern society, and particularly in urban
environments, we are exposed to
many toxic substances in the form of processed foods, air pollution, first or
secondhand cigarette smoke, and dust. These pollutants work their way into skin
and internal organs, impeding bodily functions and thus overall health as well
as having a negative impact on physical appearance. Detoxifying or
cleansing involves purging the body of these toxins through various means –
some more extreme than others. Toxins can be eliminated through the skin by
being drawn or sweated out, and through the body’s other waste elimination
systems. At the easy and
pleasurable end of the spectrum are facial and body masks and polishes that
clean accumulated dirt from the pores, hot hydrotherapy baths that use salts to
draw out poisons and increase perspiration. More
extreme are programs involving fasting, (often with fresh juices as the only
source of nutrition) along with light exercise to give your intestines a rest
and give them the opportunity to expel accumulated waste. Alongside fasting,
there is sometimes a program of enemas to scrub your insides out as clean as a
whistle. | |||
